Metropolitan Police attended the scene after reports that an aircraft had crashed in a nearby field.

The police officers were joined at the scene by London Ambulance Service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service.

Aveley Road is located directly next to Damyns Hall Aerodrome, but it has not been confirmed where the aircraft came from.

One male passenger was taken to hospital following this incident.

The extent of his injuries is not known.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.06pm today (7 September) to reports of a plane crash near Romford Road, Upminster.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.

"We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated one patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre by road.”

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is now leading any enquiries.
