Mystery after woman in her 50s found dead in city centre street as cops probe ‘unexplained’ death
A WOMAN in her 50s has been found dead in a city centre street - with cops probing the "unexplained" death.
Officers were called to reports of a body on the street in the Hanley area of Stoke-upon-Trent at around 4.15am on Saturday morning.
They attempted CPR, but a woman in her 50s was pronounced dead a short while later.
Cops are currently in the process of locating her next of kin, who will be supported by specially-trained officers.
Staffordshire Police is treating the woman's death as "unexplained" and are appealing for information.
The force said: "We are keeping an open mind about the circumstances leading up to her death."

Cops have set up a cordon on Foundry Street and are urging motorists to avoid the road.
They have ramped up their presence in the area in a bid to gather intelligence and reassure locals.
The probe includes enquiries with residents and businesses in the area around the street.
A statement added: "We are appealing for anyone with information about the death of a woman in Hanley in the early hours of this morning to get in touch.
