Mobility scooter caught driving on busy ring road by stunned motorist in startling dashcam footage

The person was riding the vehicle along a 40mph road sparking concerns for their safety

A MOTORIST was horrified when she saw a mobility scooter travelling along a busy ring road.

Linda Miller was driving along the 40mph five-lane road in Derby when she spotted a person in a high-visibility jacket trundling towards a turn-off.

She reported the “dangerous” incident to police on Tuesday, and posted the video on Twitter.

Linda, a retired phlebotomist from Littleover, Derbyshire, said: "We were driving along coming around Derby where the A6 goes off.

"I looked to my side and there was a mobility scooter tootling along in the far left-hand lane.

"It did not have a licence plate. It looked extremely dangerous.

"It's a bit of road where you've got a lot of cars coming on, and going off, across five lanes.

"It's bad enough when you're in a car. It's an awful piece of road.

According to the highway code, there are two specifications of mobility scooter. The first can be driven up to 4mph and should be ridden on pavements where possible.

The second, which can reach speeds of 8mph, can be driven on roads with speed limits up to 50mph, but only with an amber beacon attached.

Linda reported the incident to Derbyshire Police.
