She reported the “dangerous” incident to police on Tuesday, and posted the video on Twitter.

Linda, a retired phlebotomist from Littleover, Derbyshire, said: "We were driving along coming around Derby where the A6 goes off.

"I looked to my side and there was a mobility scooter tootling along in the far left-hand lane.

"It did not have a licence plate. It looked extremely dangerous.

"It's a bit of road where you've got a lot of cars coming on, and going off, across five lanes.

"It's bad enough when you're in a car. It's an awful piece of road.

"People really need to ask themselves if this is a sensible thing to do."

According to the highway code, there are two specifications of mobility scooter. The first can be driven up to 4mph and should be ridden on pavements where possible.
