THIS is the tear-jerking moment UPS workers surprised a teen by buying him a car after watching him walk 10 miles to and from work to earn money for his sick mum.

Derrick Taylor, 19, had been working at the centre in Alabama for more than a year.

He would arrive early each morning to work a physically demanding job, loading and unloading the delivery trucks for $11.90 (£9.68) an hour.

So the management and staff , who always offer him rides which he turns down, decided to surprise Derrick with his own jeep.

Allie Steen, a co-worker of Derrick’s, told they ended up raising $1,100 (£894) to buy him a Jeep Cherokee.

Steen said: “He walked over seven miles to work, rain or shine, five days a week."

On Wednesday, after his shift ended, they presented Derrick with his new ride and captured his reaction on camera.

In the clip, a fellow co-worker, who hands over the keys to Derrick, says: "This is a hard working young man. He makes me emotional.

"This young man wants to work so bad, he walks to work from way out of town."

He added: "The group here, we've got some good news for you. Everybody came together and you don't have to walk no more.

"You've got your own ride. We want you to know we appreciate your hard work."

Derrick, who already has a driver's license but couldn't afford a car, couldn’t hold back his tears of joy.

He told Global News: “It’s a great feeling to know that I got people around me like that.

“That really doesn’t happen to folks that only work a year and a half.”

Asked if he was enjoying the much quicker commute to work, Taylor said he likes the other perks even more.

Taylor, who has been working since he was 14 to support his sick mum, said: “It’s nice to be able to take my mom places."
