Man, 32, charged with attempted murder after ‘drive-by shooting’ which left girl, 9, fighting for life

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a 'drive-by shooting' which left a nine-year-old girl fighting for her life.

The girl was seriously injured along with three men when a gunman opened fire on in Dalston, east London at 9.20pm on May 29.

Javon Reily, 32, from Farnborough in Hampshire, appeared in court today charged with four counts of attempted murder.

Reily was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on September 6.

Scotland Yard said cops arrested Reily yesterday following a vehicle stop in Chelsea Embankment.

Cops have also arrested a 35-year-old woman on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and assisting an offender.

The woman has now been released on police bail, a Met spokesperson said.

A nine-year-old girl remains in hospital in a stable condition after she was seriously injured in the shooting on Kingsland High Street.

The girl's family have been informed of the charges brought against Reily.

Three other men who were injured in the shooting have since been released from hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke said: "My team continues to work around the clock in order to establish the facts of this incident.

"This is very much still an ongoing investigation and we urge those who have information to come forward.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has information about the identity of an individual seen on a motorcycle in Kingsland High Street at the time of this offence.

"We recognise that people may be apprehensive about providing details. They do not need to speak directly to the police.

"They can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could be vital."

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway added: "Today’s charges are a significant development in what has been a painstaking and meticulous investigation.

"I would like to pay credit to those from our communities who came forward to speak to us.

"Our thoughts remain with our young victim and her family as they continue to confront the devastating effects of gun crime."

It comes after CCTV footage showed the moment a gunman on a motorbike fired shots into a Turkish restaurant.

The girl was sitting inside the restaurant having dinner with her family when she was shot.

In the clip gunshots can be heard ringing through the streets, before a motorbike can be heard revving down the street.
