A father shot and killed a teen who sneaked into his house in the middle of the night to visit his 14-year-old daughter.
Derrick Fulton, 49, shot dead Jordan Middleton, 17, as he ran out of a bedroom wardrobe he had been hiding in – thinking the youngster was an intruder.
It later emerged that Fulton’s daughter had invited Middleton into the home in the early hours of the morning and hidden him in the guest bedroom.
Fulton told cops his dog started barking uncontrollably and he heard sounds coming from the guest room so he grabbed his gun and ran downstairs, reported.
He called out a warning that he was armed and yelled for anyone in the house to come out.
Fulton heard nothing so burst into the bedroom, saw the teenager run out of the wardrobe and fired his gun.
Middleton was hit once in the chest as he attempted to run out of the room and fell to the ground.
When police arrived at 2:55am they found the boy dead in the hallway of the home in Grovetown, Georgia.
Fulton then learned his daughter had invited the boy into the house and began to perform CPR on him.
The girl was not in the room at the time of the shooting, according to police.
Middleton’s former basketball coach Kevin Kenny paid tribute to the “likeable” teen.
He told WJBF: “It’s a terrible tragedy for both families. My heart goes out to both of them. He was a great kid. Very likeable, always had a smile on his face.”
No charges have yet been filed but police are investigating.
In Georgia, homeowners are allowed to use deadly force if they believe an intruder poses a danger.
