UK’s oldest rioter, 69, who set bin on fire & thug bitten by police dog that pulled down his shorts are locked up

, Trudi Wharton said she had been "praying" and was relieved with the sentences, adding: "I was expecting longer."

She said they got "carried away" and their behaviour was "very out of character".

Ms Wharton added: "It's heartbreaking. It's very, very heartbreaking."

She told how the brothers' dad passed away six years ago and they help her a lot with her disabilities.

"And it's not nice the people may look at me because they're my children. And I'm not a scumbag to be honest," she added.

Warning others about becoming involved in violent riots, the heartbroken mum said: "Don't let no one peer pressure you."

"Because this isn't going to resolve nothing," she added.

'HORRIFYING'

“There were missiles of every kind flying overhead… cans, fireworks, paint tins.

“It was relentless. You were at the front and participating enthusiastically.

“These aggravations take the sentence to the top of the sentencing bracket.”

Both men had their sentences reduced by a third because of their guilty pleas.

Goading thug Ryan Sheers. 29, was bitten on the hip by a police dog after goading cops and shouting "I pay your wages".

He'd joined the violent scenes after an afternoon bingo session with his partner Steven Mailen, 54.

They were both jailed for two years and two months.

Former postmaster and school governor Mailen, from Hartlepool, was described as "one of the main instigators" of the violence on Murray Street.

In a clip that went viral online Sheers dropped down into a crouched position, goaded cops, and at one point even patted his backside.

Suddenly the police officer gave the command for his dog to tackle Sheers and it quickly launched at him, pulling at his loosely fitting white shorts while he frantically tried to run away.

Mailen was described as being "constantly in the face of officers" in court.

The footage showed the 54-year-old making crude gestures towards the line of cops.

The pair pleaded guilty to violent disorder after 200 people gathered in the North East town on July 31.

A judge said Mailen and Sheers were "at the very forefront of the mob", and tried to push their way through a police cordon, with Mailen taunting officers and encouraging others to use violence towards them.

LOCKED UP

A thug who spat at cops on TV and a rioter found with a stone in his trousers have also been sentenced.

Dozens of far-right yobs around the country have appeared before judges today amid a crackdown after violent protests swept the UK.

Three rioters were sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court for their despicable actions.

McGuire, 45, faced the judge after a court heard he spat at officers and had to be pushed back from a police barricade.

His vile actions were caught on camera as the chaotic scene was broadcast on television.

The defendant appeared in the dock with his right arm in a sling and using a crutch after the violent disorder.

He was sentenced to 26 months.

Meanwhile, Michael Williams, 51, was sentenced to 32 months.

A court heard Williams was seen kicking another person during the Plymouth riots and officers found a stone concealed in his jogging bottoms.

District Judge Joanna Matson remanded him into custody ahead of his sentencing.

She told him: "These matters are incredibly serious indeed.

"You have accepted your role in very serious disorder and violence in the city centre that took place on Monday night.

"That kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in this society.";

A third yob, Lucas Ormond Skeaping, 29, appeared next in court after pushing over a 17-year-old who was riding a bike.

The court was told footage found on a camera showed Ormond Skeaping lobbing a full bottle of coke and a rock during the protests.

He was sentenced to 18-months imprisonment.

Guy Sullivan, who pleaded guilty to burglary, theft and violent disorder was sentenced in the same court to 16-months.

Meanwhile, a teenager who was part of a group throwing bottles and bricks at police during riots in Hartlepool claimed he just "got carried along" by the crowd.

Kieron Gatenby, 19, of Yeovil Walk, Hartlepool, was sentenced to 16 months' detention in a young offenders' institution.

Teesside Crown Court heard he was part of a group throwing missiles at police and smashing the windows of houses, cars and shops while chanting racial slurs.

Gatenby was also caught on bodycam footage throwing an egg during the disorder.

He was arrested after an officer recognised him on his bike the following day.

Calum McNicholas, defending, said Gatenby's actions were not motivated by a subscription to far right ideology.

He told the court: "He has three half-brothers who are mixed race and is disgusted in himself for getting involved with people who were chanting racial slurs."

Victoria Cook, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS South West, said: “The substantial sentences handed down today should send a chilling message to those arrested, those sat in cells ahead of their court hearing and those still waiting for a knock from the police.

“Within 72 hours, these offenders have been charged, convicted and jailed, underlining the Crown Prosecution Service’s commitment to swift justice and ensuring those involved in disorder are given the strongest possible penalties.

“We continue to work at pace with our partners across the criminal justice system to ensure anyone sewing chaos in their communities face the consequences of their actions.”

'I'M A CHILD'

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Cole Stewart will face sentencing on Friday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder at Teesside Magistrates’ Court.

The teen was filmed on CCTV throwing bricks at police officers at a violet protest in Darlington, Country Durham, on Monday.

He cried "I'm a child" when cops restrained and cuffed him at the scene.

Another 18-year-old has admitted being part of a group who violently rocked a police van during rioting in Rotherham, leaving a police community support officer (PCSO) fearing for his life.

Kenzie Roughley, of Barnsley Road, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, was filmed punching and kicking a South Yorkshire Police CCTV van, a court heard.

He is due to be sentenced on Friday at Sheffield Crown Court.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man appeared in court accused of being part of group who pushed a burning bin against the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Rotherham.

Levi Fishlock, of Sheffield Road, Barnsley, denied violent disorder and arson with intent to endanger life at Sheffield Magistrates Court today and will next appear at Crown Court on August 20.

Alfie Conway, 19, of Park Avenue Pontefract, also appeared in the same court and denied violent disorder.

He was remanded in custody until August 20.

And, a 16-year-old boy who admitted violent disorder was initially given bail before a sentencing hearing at Barnsley Youth Court on August 20.

But he was then remanded in custody after the Crown Prosecution Service said it would appeal against the judge's decision to grant bail.

Elsewhere, more teens have been hauled before the bench today.

 A teenager who joined riots in Hartlepool while out celebrating his 18th birthday was sentenced to 20 months.

Bobby Shirbon, of Cornwall Street, Hartlepool, took part in two consecutive nights of disorder in the town, Teesside Crown Court heard.

He was seen smashing windows while part of a group that was throwing bricks and bottles at police.

The defendant also threw beer bottles at a police van while wearing a balaclava.

Shirbon, who pleaded guilty to two charges of violent disorder, said "it's okay, everybody else is doing it" when he was arrested, it was said.

Riley Adey, 19, of Heworth Crescent, was arrested after Northumbria Police executed arrest warrants at homes in Washington on Wednesday.

Adey and Reece Greenwood, 31, of The Gardens, appeared before magistrates in South Tyneside today.

They both pleaded guilty to one count of violent disorder and have been remanded in custody until their sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday.

In Manchester, a man has admitted carrying out a "spinning karate kick" against a shop window during disorder in the city on Saturday.

Oliver Chapman, 23, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Manchester Magistrates' Court today.

Prosecutor Robin Lynch said: "A large number of people began to kick shop windows and businesses.

"This defendant was seen to do a spinning karate kick against a window."

District Judge Joanne Hirst remanded Chapman into custody and ordered him to appear at Manchester Crown Court on August 15 to be sentenced.

It comes as more than 120 people have been charged and 430 arrested as prosecutors work “round the clock” to catch as many demonstrators  and far-right hate-stirrers as possible.

Last night police chiefs vowed the number would rise following widespread violence, adding: “Be warned — if you have played a role, you can expect a knock at the door.”

DAWN RAIDS

And, dawn raids were launched today to arrest violent rioters as CCTV images of suspects were also released in a bid to track down dozens of thugs.

Met Police Chief Sir Mark Rowley said his force smashed its way into the homes of the "most violent" members of last week’s protests in Whitehall and branded them "criminal thugs".

It comes after Brits came out in force last night to quell riot fears after cops launched the UK's biggest ever police mobilisation to crush planned carnage.

Never before have 41 out of Britain's 43 forces been mobilised to intervene in what police expected to be a "busy" night - with 100 areas earmarked for far-right riots.

A total of 6,000 elite officers were deployed to stop violence erupting in areas including London, Liverpool, Sheffield and Birmingham.

Yesterday Derek Drummond, 58, was locked up for three years for punching a cop in Southport last Tuesday.

The haulier from Liverpool, since sacked, called  officers “s***houses” then hit PC Tom Ball in the face.

Liverpool crown court heard he had a history of violence.

Meanwhile, Declan Geiran, 29, was jailed for 30 months after being caught on CCTV torching a police van in Liverpool city centre last Saturday.

Geiran also got an extra two months for sending threatening messages to a woman who blasted him for his behaviour online.

Liam Riley, 41, who drunkenly joined a march through the city,   admitted violent disorder and a racially aggravated public order offence and got 20 months.

The trio are the latest to be jailed after 18-year-old James Nelson was caged for two months in Manchester on Tuesday.

Sir Keir Starmer said: “This is the swift action we’re taking.

“If you provoke violent disorder on our streets or online, you will face the full force of the law.”

Elsewhere, a man seen on TV wielding a stick as part of a counter-protest against the far-right was also remanded in custody. Shehraz Sarwar, 46,  was arrested in Birmingham on Monday. 

He denies possession of an offensive weapon and will appear at the city’s magistrates’ court again next week.

Meanwhile, Liam Ryan, 28, who attacked a black passer-by during violence in Manchester, admitted violent disorder and has been remanded in custody for sentencing next week.

He had travelled from his home in Bradford to “play an active role in the disorder”, Manchester magistrates’ court was told.

Elsewhere, thug Aaron Johnson, 32, who live-streamed himself ranting and spouting racial slurs outside a migrant hotel in Stockport also pleaded guilty.

He had threatened staff he would “smash their face in” and has been remanded in custody to be sentenced at Minshull Street crown court on August 21.

Another accused of violent disorder lashed out after being refused bail. 

Matthew Wilson, 31, denied racially aggravated assault and making homophobic comments.

As he was remanded in custody he punched the glass of the dock   and shouted obscenities at the judge.

He was hauled back to apologise after being threatened with a week-long jail term for contempt of court.

Others in court included Charlie Bullock, 21, said to be “the main instigator” of a group pushing against police in Middlesbrough. 

He admitted violent disorder at Teesside magistrates’ court and faces jail today at the crown court.

On Tuesday, Bradley Makin, from Sunderland, admitted violent disorder during riots in his home city after he was also found in possession of cocaine and heroin.

He admitted the offences at South Tyneside magistrates’ court and will be sentenced this week.

Meanwhile Joshua Simpson, 25, was also warned he faces jail at a sentencing at Sheffield magistrates' court later this month, after kicking a cop during rioting near Rotherham.

On Monday, two men and a woman who rioted in Sunderland were also facing jail.

Leanne Hodgson, 43, of  Sunderland, and Josh Kellett, 29, of Washington, admitted violent disorder at South Tyneside magistrates’ court.

Andrew Smith, 41, of Sunderland, admitted the same offence at Newcastle crown court. All three will be sentenced next month.

Last night the CPS vowed it will tackle social media posts after The Sun’s call to clamp down on hate and lies.

Stephen Parkinson, Director of Public Prosecutions, said: “Anyone stirring up hateful or threatening activity on social media is potentially contributing to the violent disorder.”

A court also heard for the first time how Merseyside Police officers had been severely injured in the string of riots across Liverpool and Southport.

An impact statement from police chief Serena Kennedy revealed the force has a dedicated team of 55 cops ploughing through footage to find and capture even more protesters.

She said: “The level of aggression that I witnessed which was directly aimed at my officers on the nights of 30th July, as well as 2nd and 3rd August is unprecedented.

“It was horrifying to see but the officers did an excellent job in pursuance of their primary aim to keep our communities safe.”

National Police Chiefs' Council chairman Gavin Stephens said: "Officers and police staff are working flat out to progress investigations, acting on the mountain of intelligence and evidence gathered over the last week to secure convictions."

He added: "We must not underestimate the physical and mental impact on officers facing the violent scenes from the past week. The criminal justice system is recognising the gravity of these offences to put those responsible behind bars."
