THE prison officer who had sex with an inmate on camera is now desperately “trying to save her marriage” to her swinger husband who is thought to have no idea she romped with a lag.
Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, admitted having intercourse with burglar Linton Weirich in his cell at HMP Wandsworth, which was filmed.
At a hearing at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday she pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in a public office.
De Sousa Abreu has claimed she has “found faith in God” since the incident.
Close pal Hayley, who was only identified by her first name, told the circumstances around the incident will become public when De Sousa Abreu appears in court in November for sentencing.
Hayley said: “There's a lot more to this story than people think. Some of the prisoners had got hold of Linda's personal details.
“They knew her address, her husband's name and that she had an OnlyFans account.
“She was put under a lot of pressure and there was a lot of coercion involved.”
The friend added that her friend was going through a very hard time at work and was having problems in her marriage.
Hayley said: “She's absolutely devastated by what happened and is full of remorse. It's absolutely devastated her and she's trying to rebuild her life.”
De Sousa Abreu hold Portuguese citizenship and remains married to her husband and they have an eight-year-old daughter together.
Hayley said the couple have been working hard to save their marriage and that her friend wasn’t “some kind of sex monster” but was a kind and caring person that had made a “terrible mistake”.
The parents of De Sousa's husband insist their son had no idea she having sex with a lag at Wandsworth Prison.
De Sousa Abreu was filmed having sex on June 27 with the footage then going viral on social media.
She was arrested by the Metropolitan Police at Heathrow Airport as she was attempting to fly to Madrid.
The prison officer called the prison, saying she would not be returning to work and her husband would return her equipment.
Judge Martin Edmunds KC, the Recorder of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, bailed De Sousa Abreu at her hearing at Isleworth Crown Court, ahead of her November 7 sentencing hearing.
He also ordered a pre-sentence report and will hear any mitigating circumstances before sentence is passed.
De Sousa Abreu has a number of strict conditions attached to her bail terms.
Her Portuguese passport must remain in police possession and she is not allowed to apply for any international travel documents.
Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, admitted misconduct
De Sousa Abreu, of Fulham, southwest London, admitted one charge of misconduct in public office when she appeared at Isleworth Crown Court today.
Wearing a white blazer and black top, she showed no emotion after admitting the single charge, which as a common law offence, carries the maximum of life imprisonment.
Prosecutor Eloise Marshall, KC, told the court a police interview recorded with the inmate in the video "contains information that will be subject of further investigation."
Judge Martin Edmunds, KC, the Recorder of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, bailed De Sousa Abreu ahead of sentence on November 7.
He also ordered a pre-sentence report.
De Sousa Abreu is subject to "stringent" bail conditions.
Her Portuguese passport must remain in police possession and she is not apply for any international travel documents.
She is barred from entering any UK travel ports and made her subject to an electronically monitored curfew between 7pm and 9am each day.
A Prison Service spokesman earlier said: "Staff corruption is not tolerated and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police."
The charge against De Sousa Abreu states that, between 26 and 28 June, while acting as a public officer, namely an HMP Wandsworth prison officer, "you wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell".
She is also banned from entering any UK travel ports and she is subject to an electronically monitored curfew between 7pm and 9am each day.
De Sousa Abreu was previously described as a “young mother” and a “person of good character” by her lawyer Gayathri Yogarajah.
Tetteh Turkson, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “This was a shocking breach of the public's trust.
"De Sousa was clearly an enthusiastic participant who wrongly thought she would avoid responsibility.
“The CPS recognises there is no excuse for any prison officer who conducts themselves in such a manner, and we will never hesitate to prosecute those who abuse their position of power.
“After working closely with the Metropolitan Police to build the strongest possible case, De Sousa had no option but accept she was guilty. She will now rightly face the consequences of her actions.”
