BBC studios evacuated & firefighters rush in over fears of ‘blaze sparked by laptop explosion’
BBC studios have been evacuated over fears of a blaze in the building.
Staff gathered outside in Media City - where BBC Breakfast is filmed -this afternoon as firefighters rushed in.
At least five fire engines gathered at the site in Salford, Greater Manchester, this afternoon.
It is understood that fire engines rushed to the studios following a "laptop explosion", although the cause is yet to be confirmed.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
The scare comes after BBC Breakfast was pulled off the air in November following a fire alarm at Media City.
Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty had been presenting from the iconic red sofa at the time.
After 15 minutes the show came back on air as Naga explained what had happened.
She told viewers: "You're returning to BBC Breakfast.
"Apologies, we had an evacuation in the building but we are back now with you."
