Boy, 16, ‘stabbed on busy seafront’ as man, 21, arrested

The shocking incident happened on the hottest day of the year

A TEENAGE boy was rushed to hospital after being stabbed on a busy seafront last night.

The 16-year-old became involved in an altercation with another youth on Bournemouth Beach at around 9.30pm.

During the brawl the teenager suffered suspected stab wounds and was rushed to hospital.

His injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Police officers descended on the scene next to Bournemouth Pier.

They arrested a 21-year-old man from Southampton on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

The shocking incident happened on the hottest day of the year when the beach had been packed with thousands of tourists.

"It was absolute chaos from about 9.30pm," a local told the .

"All of a sudden there were sirens everywhere. I've never heard so many sirens, and it was high speed, like one after the other.

"It was chaos. I've honestly never heard anything like it."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Officers were on scene within moments of the incident occurring, due to enhanced patrols along the seafront.

"These will continue throughout the summer as we work with our partners to provide an increased presence.

"We will continue to deal robustly with any reports of crime and anti-social behaviour.

"We want to make it clear to those coming down to visit our coastline that any reported disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated.

"We will take decisive action in response, making full use of the powers available to us and our partners."
