Police hunt Birmingham BMW driver who swerved onto pavement and mowed down 17-year-old girl out shopping with mum before speeding off in horrific hit-and-run
The horrifying moment was captured in footage after the teenager suffered serious head and neck injuries
POLICE are hunting a callous BMW driver who swerved onto a pavement and mowed down a teen girl who was out shopping with her mum before driving off.
The horrifying moment the car crashed into the 17-year-old girl on Bromsgrove Street in Birmingham last month was captured in sickening footage.
She was taken to hospital in a serious condition after suffering injuries to her head and neck and is continuing to recover following the crash on January 28.
Cops have released the 16-second clip in a bid to trace the car, described as a dark coloured BMW 5 series.
West Midlands Police say the teenager had been walking down the road with her mum following a shopping trip with her mum when she was struck by the car at around 6.30pm.
The unsuspecting pair can be seen walking side by side, carrying shopping bags and seemingly looking into shop windows to their right when the car turns out of a junction behind them.
The vehicle indicates its intentions to join the road when it swerves across the opposite carriageway and mounts the pavement, dragging the girl to the ground.
Her mum rushes to her aid and looks up to see the BMW speeding off up the road.
Another car is also seen driving closely behind at the time and doesn't appear to stop.
PC Mark Nicholson from the force traffic unit, said: “A teenager suffered serious neck and head injuries and is still in shock from what happened.
“I would urge anyone with information to call us and I want to appeal directly to the driver to do the right thing and come forward."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log 1941 28/1.
