Woman dies in ‘assault’ as heartbroken family pay tribute to ‘shining light’ whose ‘smile could light up New York’
A YOUNG mum died after an "assault" as her heartbroken family have paid tribute with police launching a murder investigation.
Cops raced to reports of a disturbance at an address in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, shorty after 10pm on Monday.
Emergency services attended the property in Appledore Close, in the Greenside area, and found Laura Robson, 37, with serious injuries consistent with being caused by an assault.
Despite the efforts of paramedics Laura was pronounced dead a short time later.
Her next of kin continue to be supported by specially-trained Family Liaison Officers from Northumbria Police.
Today, Laura’s mum Jill Evans has paid a loving tribute to her.

She said: “Words can’t describe how we, as a family, feel on the passing of our ‘Laura’ or ‘Lauz’ as we lovingly called her.
“A shining light has left us but Laura will always shine bright in our hearts.
“Laura was a very kind lass and would do anything for anyone.
“We will always love you Laura.”
Following Laura’s death, police launched a full investigation and arrested a 38-year-old man.
He was subsequently charged with murder and appeared before magistrates yesterday.
Following a hearing he was remanded in custody until a later date.
Our investigation remains ongoing and those with information which could be helpful to our enquiries should contact us so that we can provide Laura’s family with the answers they deserve.
