Facebook deletes account of businesswoman offering free nipple reconstruction to breast cancer patients due to ‘sexual content’
A MUM offering breast cancer survivors free nipple reconstructions had her Facebook account deleted for "sexual content".
Sharron Price carries out free £500 areola reconstruction to 10 local women from her specialist salon.
The 47-year-old offers cosmetic tattoos, such as fake eyebrows and nipples, and said she hoped it would help women who suffered breast cancer get some confidence back.
Ms Price, of Warrington, Cheshire, had her account deleted by Facebook after she advertised the treatment - which involves tattooing a nipple back onto breasts.
The social media giant deemed it "sexually explicit content" but has since apologised and reinstated the account, after multiple appeals were made.
A spokesman for the company said that it did not comment on individual cases but the page was taken down in error and "acted quickly" to rectify it.
Ms Price runs the Jeune Room, in Warrington, which specialises in permanent "micro-pigmentation" makeup which is tattooed on.
She said: "It's shocking what they've done - there was no need for it all because they were not sexually explicit pictures.
"I thought I had lost all my family pictures and 4,000 contacts and I couldn't get them back.
"They're allowing all sorts of stuff on Facebook but not areola restorations or enhancements for cancer sufferers!
"It's taken me hours and hours to reinstate my account and business has slowed down because people can't find me on Facebook."
In some mastectomies, reconstructions sometimes see the nipples tattooed on to the women's breasts, a treatment worth £500.
In her role as a cosmetic tattooist, Ms Price has met many women who have lost their eyebrows due to chemotherapy, something that inspired her to give away the treatments.
She said: "When ladies have mastectomies, six times out of 10 they're not given any reconstruction whatsoever.
"What we do is tattoo the nipple and the areola on to their breast to create a realistic looking breast for their own self-esteem.
"These poor ladies have breasts removed and had a bit of reconstruction, but half of the time it's not very good.
"I wanted to offer them the opportunity to get their nipples back.
"As a lady, when you lose something that special to be given them back is very special.
"There's one lady who says it has made a total difference to her life.
"She didn't even know that this was an offer, which is heart-breaking as people are walking around with reconstructed breasts but with no nipples on them.
"You wouldn't want to go topless on the beach or if you were single and looking for a new partner it could worry you.
"There are loads of things that it could stop you from doing, so this is to make them feel good and to give them their breasts back."
Earlier this year a woman developed a lemon based guide to depict the 12 key signs of breast cancer – telling women what the disease could look and feel like.
And a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer urged all women to check their breasts while lying down to help them detect the disease early.
