POLICE have released an update following the shocking footage that circulated online of a cop attacking a man on the ground at Manchester airport.
An officer involved has been "removed from operational duties" after worrying footage online showed a man's head being stamped on.
GMP said on Wednesday evening that people are "rightly extremely concerned" over the clip and that a male officer involved has been removed from duty, but not suspended.
A statement read: “We know that a film of an incident at Manchester Airport that is circulating widely shows an event that is truly shocking, and that people are rightly extremely concerned about.
"The use of such force in an arrest is an unusual occurrence and one that we understand creates alarm.
"One male officer has been removed from operational duties and we are making a voluntary referral of our policing response to the Independent Office of Police Conduct."
The clip was filmed moments after officers were punched to the ground while trying to make an arrest at Manchester Airport Terminal 2.
Four people have since been arrested on suspicion of affray and assault on emergency service workers.
In the horrifying footage, at least five armed officers are seen surrounding a man as he lies on the floor.
One male officer delivers a forceful kick to the right hand side of the man’s face as an older woman kneels next to him.

The same PC then viciously stamps on the back of the man’s head with his black boot.
The woman quickly tries to drag him away to safety as three officers close in to inspect the damage.
A female policewoman with red hair shouts at the person filming the horrific incident, telling them to move back.
She then appears to start crying, clamping a hand to her forehead as chaos unfolds at the terminal.
An older man who sat on a seat nearby was then ordered to the floor and placed his hands behind his head before cops aggressively dragged him to the ground.
GMP wrote in their statement: “During our response, three officers were assaulted.
"One female officer suffered a broken nose and the other officers were forced to the ground and suffered injuries which required hospital treatment.
“Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault, assault of emergency worker, affray, and obstructing police.
“Two other men have also been arrested on suspicion of affray and assault of an emergency worker.”
