CLAIMS of a rift at the heart of Sir Keir Starmer’s new regime are “total b***ocks”, No10 said.

The Labour government has been rocked by reports the PM’s chief of staff Sue Gray is at war with his campaigns chief Morgan McSweeney.

The two powerful aides are said to be locked in a bitter power struggle in Downing Street.

Insiders told The Sun on Sunday Ms Gray has tried “to kill” Mr McSweeney by hobbling appointments to the new government.

Some advisers have also been put on temporary contracts on quite low pay in a move interpreted as a deliberate swipe at some of Mr McSweeney’s allies.

One party insider said: “Now is not the time to try to kill Morgan - he likes fighting.”

Labour insiders said the transition from Opposition to government has been “a mess”.

But last night Downing Street furiously hit back at the suggestions of a rift between Mr McSweeney and Ms Gray.

A source said: “It is total b***ocks. Sue and Morgan are working very well together.”
