MARK Zuckerberg has revealed plans to use Facebook to fill the void left in Western communities by the collapse of religion.
It would appear that the billionaire is not happy with his domination of the real world of big business and the virtual world of the internet: he wants to conquer the spiritual realm too.
Zuck has been getting metaphysical of late, having recently abandoned his atheism and announced the resurrection of his relationship with God.
The social media supremo is currently on a mission around America this year, vowing to visit and meet people in every state in the US by the end of 2017.
During this pilgrimage - which has been intimately documented on his Facebook profile by a crack team of spin doctors - he spent a lot of time chatting to spiritual leaders and trying to understand how religions tie communities together.
"We all need to be part of something bigger than ourselves," he reflected in one post.
In a separate message, he talked about attending a Christian service in Mobile, Alabama, order to study how God can bring people together
"I'm looking at more of the world through the lens of building community these days," he added.
"In Mobile, we joined a baptist church for services this morning and saw how the church provides an important social structure for the community."
In Waco, a Texan town most famous for the siege of a cult lead by David Koresh, he also "met with ministers who are helping their congregations find deeper meaning in a changing world".
People at this meeting said Zuck did a lot of listening, but not very much talking.
"You could have knocked me over with a feather," rector at St. Alban's Episcopal Church.
"The clergy spoke 90 percent of the time. That impressed me a lot."

Another explanation might be that he's simply trying to copy some of the tricks religions used to bind communities, in the hoping of ensnaring even more of humanity in his increasingly inescapable social network.

Or perhaps he might decide that all that shallow earthly success ain't all it's cracked up to be and try to turn his two billion-strong Facebook flock into members of a fully-fledged religion.
Sadly, reading the mind of the notoriously reticent Zuck is about as difficult as guessing the will of God.
