Mother, 32, dies in Swindon after being hit by road sweeper at crossroads on her way to pick her child up from minder

A MUM, 32, has died after being hit by a road sweeper at a crossroads while on her way to pick up her child.

She died at the scene of the collision, in Hyde Road, just before 4.30pm on Thursday.

The woman was killed yesterday after being hit by a highway maintenance vehicle at the cross roads of Beechcroft Road and Hyde Road

No arrests have been made in what Inspector David Ibbott described as an ongoing investigation over what appeared to be a “tragic accident”.

Wiltshire Police said: “A white road maintenance vehicle was in collision with a pedestrian.

“A 32 year old lady from Swindon sadly died at the scene.

“Next of kin have been informed and formal identification will take place in due course.”

Police are keen to trace the driver of a taxi, who they say could be a key witness.

The taxi was seen turning right at the time of the collision.

PC Steve Hutton said: “We would like to speak to that taxi driver, if that is you please come forward.

“We know you were not involved in the collision but we would like to speak to you as a key witness.

“We’d also like to speak to anyone else who may have seen or heard what happened on this stretch of road.”

South West Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics were called to the scene at 4.24pm to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a female pedestrian.

Two ambulances and two rapid response cars responded.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or was in the area at the time, is asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
