Police hunt sex attacker who fled after ‘raping woman in Oxford market’

A woman reported the serious sex assault at 4am this morning

A SEX attacker who pounced on a woman in Oxford's city centre market is being hunted by police.

The area was cordoned off today after the serious sexual assault was reported in the early hours of the morning.

A major police investigation has now been launched in the covered market in the city of dreaming spires' High Street.

Stallholders arrived to find the scene near one of the market's seven entrance closed to the public as officers stood guard while forensic investigators scoured the area for evidence behind police barriers.

The investigation was launched after the sex attacker had fled the scene and no-one had been arrested in connection with the woman's ordeal.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "We are currently investigating a report of a serious sexual assault of a woman that was reported to us at around 4am today.

"The area around the entrance to the Oxford Covered Market is currently cordoned off as officers carry out their investigation."
