A Turkish Airlines press official said the plane had been ready to leave Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport for Toronto Pearson International Airport when the note was found.

The plane was quickly turned back around to be evacuated at its parking spot.

The airline said the plane and its passengers are undergoing security procedures.

Turkish Airlines said in a statement: "Turkish Airlines flight TK17, B777 Aircraft, from Istanbul to Toronto carrying 297 passengers had to come back to the gate after pushback.

"The necessary investigation onboard has now finalised  and it became clear that, it  was a false bomb scare alert.
"Now flight TK 17 has departed for Toronto."
