A WOKE university has told students not to use the words “illegal immigrant” over fears it could cause offence.

The term is dehumanising and staff and students can say “undocumented” instead, says the guidance.

Terms such as “crazy” and “mad” for amazing events should be swapped for “bananas”, adds the inclusive language guide by London Metropolitan University.

Tory politician Nigel Mills called it “ludicrous woke nonsense”.

He stormed: “Illegal migrant is a simple factual term for someone who’s not come to the UK legally.

“Surely universities have better uses for tuition fees than paying people to come up with this rubbish.”

The university, which has 12,500 students, also says on its website:  “Welcome ladies and gentleman” should be replaced with “Welcome everyone”.

Husbands and wives should be called “partners”, and mums and dads  “parents” or “caregivers”.

Ageist terms “elderly, OAPs, pensioners or youngsters” are also discouraged.

The university said it wants to use words “that signify respect, recognise the nuances of our lived experience, and  promote equitable outcomes”.

A spokesman added: “We take pride in our diverse community and our commitment to creating a welcoming environment where all students can succeed.

“This is not about political correctness; it’s about ensuring everyone feels valued.

“We stand by our values and the positive impact of this guide.”
