Laura Kenny reveals she and husband Jason are ‘absolutely delighted’ to be having a baby
CYCLING hero Laura Kenny has revealed she is "absolutely delighted" to be expecting her first child with husband Jason.
The Olympic golden couple yesterday posted a cute Instagram snap of a green child's bike next to two adult ones to announce the good news.
And today she took to Twitter to formally reveal the pregnancy to her delighted fans.
The 24-year-old wrote: "Thanku for all ur lovely messages. Myself and @JasonKenny107 are absolutely delighted n cannot wait for our new arrival later in the year".
Fans of the four-time gold medallist, who married long-time partner Jason, 28, last year, congratulated the couple.
Adam Harding-Jones wrote: "@LauraKenny31 @JasonKenny107 congratulations to you both. Another future gold medallist no doubt".
Ben said: "@LauraKenny31 @JasonKenny107 Congratulations Both! Let's hope it gets both of your Genes!!"
While Val French wrote: "@LauraKenny31 @JasonKenny107 my cycling heroes -fab news congratulations to you both x".
Six times world champion Jason replied to his wife's post on Instagram yesterday with a picture of a leaflet that featured on The Simpson's saying "so you've ruined your life".
He added the message "I wondered why this leaflet came through the post".
Laura had previously said the couple did not plan on starting a family until after the 2020 Olympics.
But, she sent fans into a spin for the second time when she posted a picture of the couple's two dogs to Instagram yesterday.
A speech bubble above one dog reads "Yay! means I can wake up even earlier" while the other has a message saying "Nooo! I need sleep!".
The couple's agent Luke Lloyd Davies said: "I can confirm that Laura Kenny is indeed pregnant and that she, Jason and their respective families are absolutely thrilled and delighted with the news.
"They very much appreciate all the kind wishes and messages of support that they have received already."
The couple were pictured at the Laureus World Sports Awards last night, where Laura is nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year award.
In December Laura described the day she married Jason as "the best of my life" in an exclusive chat with The Sun.
The Olympian had previously joked about hoping the gold-winning couple's children would inherit their genes.
The pair had made Olympic history when they returned from Rio with five gold medals between them.
Their relationship became public at the London 2012 Olympics, where they each won two gold medals in the velodrome and were pictured kissing at the beach volleyball competition at Horse Guards Parade.
It was joked at the time that British Cycling had thought of everything, even a breeding programme.
When the couple were asked about the prospect of becoming parents at the Rio Olympics in August, Mrs Kenny said: "We haven't exactly thought about it.
"I guess I am still quite young. I only put it out there because everybody kept going on about it.
"So I was just like, 'It could be the best omnium rider in the world, couldn't it? Bit of sprint, bit of endurance. You never know.'
"In 20-something (years) down the line, you never know."
