Fire service issues warning for romping couples to take care with sex toys after rise in number of kinky callouts

Firefighters have been called out to a number of embarrassing incidents in the past year

COUPLES enjoying Valentine's Day have been warned to take care when using sex toys and lighting candles - after the fire service reported an increase in kinky callouts.

Lovers trapped in handcuffs and men with rings stuck on their penises are among the embarrassing incidents firefighters have been called out to in the past year.

And with the Fifty Shades Darker film hitting screens this month, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have teamed up with London colleagues to launch the Fifty Shades of Red Campaign warning playful partners to think before they get themselves into sticky situations.

MFRS head of prevention Paul Etches said: “Regardless of how you are enjoying Valentine’s Day, take care and try not to endanger yourself.

“Some situations may be embarrassing, but others can be more dangerous.

“We have been called out to 75 incidents involving candles since the start of last year, so if you are lighting candles for a romantic evening in, never leave it unattended.

“Our advice is simple: if the ring doesn’t fit, don’t force it on.

“As well as being painful, you could end up wasting emergency service time if you have to call us out.

“While we are always happy to help, the time and money spent on these call outs could have been used far more usefully.

“Accidents will happen, but take a second to think about what you are doing and the potential harm you are putting yourself in.”

Over the past 12 months GMFRS have rescued three men with rings stuck on their penises and 13 people trapped in handcuffs.

Fire crews have also been called to rescue people with their hands trapped in kettle spouts and one lady who got her thumb stuck in a bowling ball.

There have been six incidents of children with their heads stuck in potties or toilet seats, while the fire service have removed 264 rings stuck on people’s fingers.

Firefighters have also been called to help people trapped in swings, stuck on railings and even bicycles.

Due to the unusual nature of some of the incidents, the fire service is stressing to only dial 999 in the case of a real emergency.
