DRINKERS did a double take as Prince Charles appeared to photobomb a selfie by the band Kasabian - in a pub called the Prince of Wales.

The royal popped in to the Somerset boozer at the same time as the Leicester rockers were tucking in to lunch.

The band posted a snap on their Instagram page showing Charles standing in the background behind guitarist Serge Pizzorno.

The caption said: "Photo bombing zone ... #HRH"

Charles had a go at pulling a pint the pub in Ham Hill near Yeovil yesterday afternoon after touring local businesses.

Landlady Nicki Holroyd, who runs the pub with husband Mike, said she knew he was coming but it was "a lovely surprise" for locals.

She : "He was very generous with his time and it was just a brilliant day.

"We knew he was coming but it was lovely surprise for everyone else.

"He poured a pint and his visit was just a huge boost for everybody and our invited guests."

The bizarre combination of royalty and indie rockers on the same day left regulars stunned.

Andrew Perlejewski, who was in the pub, said on Twitter: "Great afternoon meeting Prince Charles at the Prince of Wales pub. Kasabian were having lunch in the pub. How weird?"

Others told how they bumped into him walking in a nearby beauty spot.

History teacher Andrew Sweet tweeted: "Not everyday you meet and shake hands with HRH Prince Charles on a walk on Ham Hill.

"A real privilege to meet him and very proud moment to introduce my son who shook hands with him as well."

The Prince of Wales describes itself as a dog friendly pub offering beautiful views and seasonal menus.

It is understood that the pub is one of four owned by Charles's Duchy of Cornwall estate.

Last week Charles told of his "deep sadness" over the death of his goddaughter Tara Palmer-Tompkinson at the age of 45.
