The 18-year-old was larking about with mates on the side of the crossing when he lost his footing and fell to his death
A TEEN died after apparently being knocked from a bridge over a Brazilian river by one of his mates.
The incident took place on a crossing over the river Jamari, in the rural area known as Itapua do Oeste, in western Brazil.
Daniel Faustino Pinto Filho, 18, was playing with some friends balancing on the edge of the bridge.
Three lads are larking about on the railing when two jump off onto the ground, leaving Daniel standing on the ledge.
A member of the group, said to be a 21-year-old woman but not named in reports, is seen reaching towards Daniel and appears to make contact with his knee.
He flails his arms into the air and then topples off backwards off the bridge, in the background a girl shrieks and then the camera is dropped.
Daniel’s body was found 14 hours later by firefighters.
According to some witnesses, the teen did not know how to swim and was drunk fell from the railing.
Sued Rocha, the commander of the rescue operation, said that the body was found in the deep part of the river, some metres away from where the boy fell.
He also said that the body is being studied by a forensics team who will determine the cause of death, although it is believed that he drowned.
The unnamed woman who seemed in the video to have pushed him and other witnesses were taken to a police station in order to be interviewed by authorities.
She said that Daniel had been joking about jumping from the bridge and then she decided to make a joke pretending to push him, but he flinched from her mock-push and fell.
On the other hand, the person who recorded the video told police that the woman who pushed him knew that he was not able to swim and gave the film to police.
Rocha also said that two of the boy’s friends had jumped from the bridge in a failed attempt to rescue the young man.
Witnesses and the woman who is alleged to have pushed Daniel were released after the police interview.
It is not clear whether any charges were brought.
The investigation is ongoing.
