A SEVEN-year-old boy in desperate need of an ear operation had his surgery cancelled after staff found a mouse in the operating room at Hull Royal Infirmary.
It is the second time a mouse has been found in the hospital in less than two weeks.
A pest control team was called to the infirmary on Monday morning after a field mouse managed to sneak its way into the Duchess of Kent Day Surgery Unit.
Hospital officials have announced plans to close the hospital wing on Wednesday so a deep clean can be carried out.
Mum-of-three Stacy Jarvis has told how she was waiting in the day unit with her son, Jayden Hunter, when she found out his operation would have to be postponed for up to a month because of the rodent.
The seven-year-old needs to have grommets inserted in his ear to treat an infection which has left him hard of hearing.
The youngster has been waiting for the operation since last summer.
Mum Stacy told the : “He needs to get his hearing sorted because it affects his education.
“He is meant to wear a hearing aid but he won't because he gets bullied.”
The mum said patients and loved ones waiting at the hospital were told to leave without being seen because of the mouse, but weren’t told why at the time.
Offering her opinion on the hospital’s rodent problem, Stacy said: "I think it's absolutely disgusting. I can't believe they've got mice.”
A spokesperson for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed the incident.
They told the Hull Daily Mail: "Our local pest control service is currently on site and the team are currently working hard to ensure any disruption is minimal.”
They added that the unit will remain closed on Tuesday, but said scheduled operations will be relocated where possible.
