A9 crash: Woman killed and four others rushed to hospital after minivan smash on notorious road

The major road was closed while an investigation got underway

A WOMAN has died and four others were rushed to hospital following a horror crash on a notorious road.

Mercy crews raced to the A9 near Carrbridge, in the Scottish Highlands, around 10:15pm last night.

The smash involved a Volkswagen Multivan and a Toyota Hilux.

A 65-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man who were passengers in the Volkswagen, and the 64-year-old male driver were rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where hospital staff describe their condition as serious.

The 51-year-old male driver of the Toyota was also taken to hospital where staff describe his condition as serious.

The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and fully reopened around 5.50am today.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers are appealing for information.

Road Policing Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this very difficult time.

“As our enquiries continue, I’d appeal to anyone with information to come forward. I’d be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of the area around the time.”
