AMERICAN TV star Henry Winkler has been evacuated from a Dublin Hotel blaze.
The TV icon, most famous for his role as The Fonz in sitcom Happy Days, was among staff and guests rushed out of the Shelbourne Hotel in a fire scare on Wednesday morning.
Flames have since been brought under control after six fire engines raced to the scene around 10.30am.
Winkler praised Dublin firefighters after the evacuation operation.
The fan favourite, who is in Dublin to promote his memoir ‘Being Henry’, told : "When I heard the fire alarm I thought it was the clock radio.
"I thought somebody had set the alarm before we got there - like another guest.
"And finally I went into another room and it was still buzzing so I called downstairs, and the woman said, in a very calm voice, 'yes we are all evacuating, you must evacuate right now'. And I left.
"He added: "Firemen are some of my favourite human beings. Firemen and firewomen. They run in when other people are running out.
"I think their hands deserve to be shook."
Marianne and Patrick Brown were among the guests due to be staying in the hotel on Wednesday morning, after flying overnight to from .

The couple were not able to check in due to the fire.
Although the staff were being a "great" help, it is not clear when they would be able to get into their room.
She said: "Safety first so I think they’re just waiting for the all clear.
“We think it will take them an hour or so to get sorted once they get the all clear.”
Guests have since been allowed to return to the hotel.
A spokesman said no injuries had been reported.
Dublin Fire Brigade said the evacuation “helped enormously” while operated traffic diversions in the area.
The five-star hotel is located on St Stephen’s Green near Leinster House and several Government departments.
