Police appeal for any witnesses to fatal crash to come forward
A MAN, 21, has died in a collision between a car and a van on the A616 in South Yorkshire.
Police closed the road, between Wortley and High Green, after being called to the scene shortly after 10am today.
A police spokesman said: "At around 10.10am this morning, police responded to reports of a two vehicle collision, involving a white Mercedes van and blue Vauxhall Astra, on the A616 bypass between the Wortley and Tankersley, Barnsley.
"The driver of the blue Vauxhall Astra, a 21-year-old man, sadly died at the scene and specialist officers are currently providing support to his family at this difficult time.
"The driver of the Mercedes van has been taken to Northern General Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries."
