Cops launch investigation after elderly man dies from injuries inflicted by collapsing lift at care home

COPS have launched an investigation after an elderly man died from injuries inflicted by collapsing lift at a care home.

The 87-year-old man was rushed to hospital after the accident at Serendipity Care Home, in Urmston, Greater Manchester, on January 30.

The man's family are being supported by specially trained officers.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive, who will work together to investigate, said the safety of residents and staff is their priority.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parker of GMP’s Trafford borough said: “I can confirm that we have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident at a care home in Urmston.

“This is a complex joint investigation and it will take some time to establish what caused the lift to collapse.

“If anybody has any information that they believe could assist us then we would ask that they contact Trafford police on the numbers below.”

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “Trafford Council is aware of the incident and is aiding the police in their investigation as well as supporting the home to manage the needs of the residents during this difficult time.”
