THIS is the moment a man perches on the end of a crane engulfed in black smoke as seven people have been hospitalised in a tower block fire.
The Canning Town construction site inferno is being tackled by 70 firefighters this morning with one person dramatically rescued using a 13.5m ladder.
As the fire raged, thick black smoke quickly spread out around the construction site putting lives in danger.
One photo posted to social media appears to show the perilous moment a person stands at the end of a crane as black smoke can be seen all around them.
Seven were taken to hospital by the London Air Ambulance due to smoke inhalation, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
LFB announced just before 10am they had the fire near Silvertown Way under control but that crews would remain at the scene throughout the morning.
Video posted to social media earlier showed black smoke billowing from a tower block.
The fire was located in a construction site consisting of 10 floors, where a ground floor commercial unit was alight.
There are cranes on the construction site and the lot is protected by fences.
Footage taken by a witness riding the cable car showed the black smoke rising above the buildings and travelling north.
LFB said in a statement they had 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters responding.
They said: "One of the Brigade's 64m ladder deployed to the scene as part of our response, and one person was rescued by firefighters using 13.5 metre ladder.
"The fire has been producing significant amounts of smoke. People in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area where possible."
LFB said they had received over 30 calls, with the first coming through at 8:23am.
"Firefighters from Plaistow, Poplar, East Ham and surrounding fire stations are attending the scene. The cause of the fire is not yet known."
The Met said it was not aware of any injuries.
