NEWLY released footage shows war ready Russia putting its pilots through its paces in scenes straight out of the film Top Gun.
The breath-taking clip - released as president Vladimir Putin placed his air force on red alert - shows the formidable Su-25s soaring through the skies.
The slickly produced video shows one of the jets flying in tight formation and a low altitude at high speed.
The group then splits and the pilot then dips his nose and fires a salvo of missiles at a target.
The jet then races off to base where he is seen landing.
It comes as Vladimir Putin has ordered his army and air force to prepare for a “time of war” during a test of the country’s armed forces.
Russia’s defence ministry confirmed the measures during a “snap check” that included its massive S-300 and S-400 missile defence systems.
The war game saw the units shoot down 30 aircraft.
Meanwhile Russian news agency today revealed that air defence units in Moscow and Russia’s Central Industrial District have been put on high alert.
