Youth basketball player, 15, killed after being struck by a car in Manchester as family pay heartbreaking tribute
TRIBUTES have poured in for a 15-year-old basketball player who died after being hit by a car in Greater Manchester.
Ethan Allen was rushed to hospital on Tuesday following the incident on Rochdale Road, in Oldham, at around 8.10pm.
He died on Thursday, police say.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has since been released on bail.
In a statement, Ethan's heartbroken family said he was "a very energetic funny loving young boy" who "always made time for others".
They added: "He was always smiling. He had a great love of the sport basketball and played for Oldham State Warriors and more recently Royton Mavericks.

“Ethan also recently became a basketball referee which he was proud to do.
“He is truly missed by his parents, Gillian and Gordon, sister Abbie, Grandmother Eunice, his stepfather, and stepbrothers.
"We thank people for their continued support and condolences.
“Ethan's legacy will continue to shine through in life with the donation of his organs to save another life.

One person wrote on Facebook: "You may be gone but you will NEVER be forgotten."
Police said the car involved was a black Seat Ibiza which was heading northbound when the collision happened.
Constable Thomas Johnson, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident which has seen a child sadly lose his life, and all of our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.
"Specially trained officers are supporting the family through every step of the process, and we will keep them updated as and when any information becomes available.
“While we have made an arrest, we are continuing to ask for information as we progress our investigation - if you have anything that you think could help, or witnessed anything, please do get in touch.
"This includes any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage.”
