The Buckingham Palace event comes just before the 11th anniversary of Lee’s horrific murder by two British-born jihadists as he walked back to his barracks in Woolwich, South London.

The day is especially poignant for Lyn as it was Charles and Camilla who wrote to her and sent her flowers in the aftermath of Lee’s killing on May 22, 2013.

Lyn, 58, says it shows the King has not forgotten her son, aged 25, a drummer with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

She added: “I couldn’t wish for a greater honour than this and it means the world to me.

“It really proves that our King has never forgotten my son Lee.

“That is the greatest gift anyone can give me — to remember Lee. I have nightmares he will one day be forgotten.

“Our King has always been a kind and caring man. I’ll never forget the beautiful letter and flowers he and Camilla sent me.

“It was so heartfelt and genuine and I’ve kept the letter to this day.

"Now, over a decade later, he’s still got Lee and my family in his thoughts. I feel very blessed he cares so much.”
