Keir Starmer launches Blair-esque ‘My First Steps pledges’ as he ramps up campaign for No10

LABOUR’S Sir Keir Starmer will seek to tiptoe into No10 today — by unveiling his My First Steps pledges.

The party leader is launching a Tony Blair-style promise card as he steps up campaigning ahead of the next election.

Blair’s own 1997 pledge card helped Labour win a thumping 179-seat majority.

But Tory deputy party chairwoman Angela Richardson said Sir Keir’s version was more like the notorious “EdStone”, on which failed ex-leader Ed Miliband carved his promises.

She said: “Labour’s latest attempt is fooling no one.”

Sir Keir’s vow to launch a Border Security Command to control illegal immigration has already been attacked by Home Secretary James Cleverly as a “pale imitation”.

And Tories last night said Labour — who vow to delivering economic stability — are offering “fantasy spending promises, without substance”.

Critics also compared Labour’s pledge to recruit 6,500 new teachers to ex-PM Boris Johnson’s offer to hire 20,000 new cops.

Sir Keir — pictured on the card with rolled-up sleeves — is putting himself front and centre to take on PM Rishi Sunak in a personality duel.

And he will venture into traditional Tory heartlands to reveal his offer to voters.
