The pair, each on about £90,000 a year, are said to have had a formal warning after 'romping with secretaries'

And they have been accused of exchanging hundreds of emails using codes such as “going for a cappuccino” and “spreading marmite” to arrange secret sex sessions near wards with patients.

The hospital refused to sack the consultants after a disciplinary hearing lasting just 20 minutes, .

And GMC records checked yesterday listed them as still “licensed to practise with no restrictions”.

One hospital worker fumed: “If it’d been anybody lower down, they’d have been sacked, not suspended.”

The pair, each on about £90,000 a year, are said to have had a formal warning and recommended to receive counselling.

The doctors and three secretarial staff are reported to have left their jobs at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The doctors are believed to be working elsewhere.
