Labour MP Keir Starmer nets £10k advising Gibraltar politicians as they looked to nobble Brexit

Labour MP has declared earning almost £10,000  for giving legal advice to Gibraltar as territory campaigned against Brexit

LABOUR Remoaner Sir Keir Starmer was paid almost £10,000 by Gibraltar for “legal advice” as it tried to nobble Brexit.

The former Director of Public Prosecutions got £9,480 for just 20 hours of work in December 2015, according to the MPs’ Register of Interests.

It came just days before Gibraltar’s politicians published draft legislation to enable its pro-EU citizens to vote in the referendum.

The British Overseas Territory relies on around 12,000 Spanish workers — half its workforce — crossing the border every day.

Its population voted 96 per cent in favour of remaining in the EU, making it the most pro-European part of Britain.

The Spanish authorities have threatened to close the border if the UK does not grant them joint rule.

Starmer — Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union — refused to reveal the nature of his legal advice to the Gibraltar government, but insisted it had nothing to do with helping them draft their legislation.

The lawyer, who has a £1.5million London pad and family home in Surrey, said: “As you know, legal advice is confidential and privileged.”
