The climbers are being treated at Belford Hospital, Fort William, for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they had received a call about the accident at about 12.15pm on Saturday.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The Scottish Ambulance Service received an emergency call shortly before 1pm today to attend an incident at Ben Nevis.

“Two ambulance crews attended the incident and once patients were rescued by helicopters, they were handed over to Scottish Ambulance Service paramedics.

“Three patients were taken to the Belford Hospital and all were in a stable condition.”

It comes after seven skiers who had gone missing after an avalanche in Italy were found alive.

Rescuers found the group around two hours after they were hit on the Sella Nevea mountain pass in the northeastern Udine province.
