Seven skiers missing after an avalanche in Italy are found alive

SEVEN skiers who went missing on an Italian mountain after an avalanche have been found alive.

Rescuers found the group around two hours after they were hit on the Sella Nevea mountain pass in the northeastern Udine province on Saturday morning.

One person is in a serious condition after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

Another suffered minor injuries while the remaining are unharmed.

Alpine Rescue Service announced it had found the Italian skiing group after they raised the alarm at 11:45am local time.

The 200m long avalanche struck at around 2,200 metres up the mountain near a ski lift, burying the area in 2.5m of snow, according to .

The skiers were transferred by helicopter and ambulance to nearby Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Udine.

It comes just weeks after an avalanche in Abruzzo swept over the Rigopiano hotel, killing 29 people.
