Cops release new CCTV image of mystery man who could hold key to whereabouts of RAF gunner Corrie McKeague

COPS in need of a break-through in the disappearance of Corrie McKeague have released fresh images of a potential witness.

The RAF serviceman mysteriously vanished on a night out on September 24.

Despite a wide-scale search by police, there have been no leads in the hunt for the dad-to-be.

Tonight a new image has emerged of a person last seen on foot in the area where Corrie McKeague disappeared.

The same person was captured on previous CCTV images in the vicinity of the horseshoe between  3.15am and 5.20am on Saturday, September 24.

In total three potential witnesses were identified following an appeal in January but officers still want help tracing he remaining pair.

Police say they also want to speak to a cyclist seen talking to a driver and an older man wearing a blue hood who were in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, between 3.15am and 5.20am on September 24.

Officers trawled through hundreds of hours of CCTV as they tried to piece together the last known movements of dad-to-be Corrie, 23, from Fife.

He was separated from friends while leaving the Flex nightclub in the town and may have tried to walk the ten miles back to his base at RAF Honington.

Police said the vast majority of those in the area sought from CCTV have been identified, traced and spoken to.

Detective Superintendent Katie Elliott said: “Our aim from the outset has been to find Corrie. To that end we have searched extensively the places where he was likely to be found.

"Some locations have been searched more than once using specially trained officers, dogs and technical equipment, and this is normal practice in searches of this kind.

"The initial most likely scenario was that Corrie had tried somehow to get home from Bury St Edmunds and had come to harm and to that end searches focussed on the areas where he may have been had he tried to get back to RAF Honington.

“We have also prioritised the viewing of CCTV for the places where Corrie was most likely to be seen and then worked out from there.

"A systematic approach gives assurance that he has not been missed on CCTV as some of the images are not clear and need to be viewed multiple times and by trained operatives to gain this level of assurance.

“Over £300,000 has so far been spent on the investigation and we are putting every effort into finding Corrie."
