Next Doctor Who should be a woman with a MALE assistant to boss around, Labour’s Harriet Harman says
The former Labour deputy leader joined calls for a female actress to replace Peter Capaldi
THE next Dr Who should be a woman - with a man as her assistant, veteran Labour MP and feminist Harriet Harman said today.
The former Labour deputy leader joined calls for a female actress to replace Peter Capaldi who has quit the hit show.
It came as former Dr Who star Billie Piper ruled herself out of replacing the latest Time Lord – but backed moves to bring in a woman.
Speaking at a Westminster lunch, Ms Harman insisted: “Of course there should be a female Doctor Who but what we need is a man as her assistant.
“She has got to just tell him what to do, he will need that leadership."
Quizzed over whether the Prime Minister wanted a woman in the role, her spokesman said it was up to programme makers to decide.
Her official spokeswoman said: "As someone who has been clear she enjoys Doctor Who, I think she wishes it to continue to be entertaining.”
Mrs May revealed her fondness for the time-travelling Doctor in an interview with Radio Times last year.
