Tourist, 28, dies in horror jet ski crash on Canary Islands after losing control & smashing into rocks

A WOMAN has tragically died after her jet ski crashed off the coast of the island of Gran Canaria.

The 28-year-old had lost control over her jet ski and it veered into the rocks of a breakwater, according to reports.

Emergency responders were immediately notified of the incident, and mobilised the Canary Islands Emergency Service.

Paramedics were rushed onto the scene, where it was confirmed that the 28-year-old woman had sustained life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services reported that the woman was in cardiac arrest, but CPR was not enough to resuscitate her.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Mogán Local Police and Civil Guard carried out corresponding procedures in collaboration with the Fire Department.

The woman's body has been taken by coroners for identification purposes and an autopsy.

Authorities have expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the woman.

It comes just months after another woman, 49, died after sustaining horrific injuries when she fell off a jet ski driven by her husband.

It was reported that her husband accelerated as she fell - and that the power of the jet propulsion led to a rupture in her groin.

While an 11-year-old Brit tragically died on holiday in Turkey in August 2023.

Yagnmur Koseoglu was on the back of her dad’s jet ski when another craft slammed into them at high speed, killing the youngster instantly.

In May 2023, emergency services were rushed to Worthing beach in Goring-by-Sea after a jet ski rider crashed as a result of intense currents.

Witnesses recounted that the man had come off the jet ski while thousands packed the beach.

Beachgoer Tracy Thompson said: "The current was strong and took the jet ski too far away from him.

"Heartbreaking watching him while helpless on the shore."

Ministers in the UK have had to toughen the punishment for jet-ski riders after the rise in these tragedies.

Maritime Minister Baroness Vere said: “The watercraft industry is thriving and it’s great to see more and more people enjoying leisure activities.

“However, they must do so safely.

“That’s why we’re introducing a new law to crack down on any dangerous misuse of watercraft like jet skis.

“It will give the Maritime and Coastguard Agency greater power to prosecute those responsible for causing accidents or entirely avoidable tragedies.

“We’ll continue working to ensure our country’s coasts and waters are safe for everyone.”
