The Russian defence ministry immediately went on the defensive - claiming all of Ukraine's drones were downed or missed their targets.

It said in a statement: “Kyiv regime's attempts to carry out a number of terrorist attacks using aircraft-type UAVs against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation were stopped."

But Ukraine celebrated the win for Zelensky's forces.

A source said: “At the same time, two electrical substations - in Kaluga and Bryansk - and [oil facilities] in the Smolensk region were damaged."
