Woman dies after car skids on ice and crashes into tree

A WOMAN has died after her car skidded on ice and crashed into a tree.
Lancashire Police were called to the incident in Tarleton at about 5.30am this morning.
A force spokesman said the vehicle had skidded on ice and crashed into the tree on Southport New Road.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died.
Cops were called out to deal with a number of collisions thought to be a result of icy conditions on Sunday morning, including five crashes on the M6 and a crash in which a man was seriously injured in Hesketh Bank.

A message on the Twitter account for the Lancashire roads policing unit said: "Folks, it's still very icy out on the roads. Allow extra journey time and make sure you arrive safely. Drive to the conditions."
The Met Office had issued yellow severe weather warnings of ice for many parts of the country on Sunday morning.
