Edwards, 62, is being probed over claims he paid £35,000 to a young person who sent him explicit images.

In February, BBC bosses admitted failings over its handling of a complaint lodged by the youngster’s parents last May.

The young person’s mother told The Sun: “We’ve suffered immense pain.”

It is understood Edwards is now staying at mum Aerona’s home in Carmarthenshire.

A pal told The Daily Mail this week: “Huw is living in Wales, mostly with his mother. It’s just easier that way.”

Meanwhile, BBC bosses are braced for a backlash over the news that Edwards is still pocketing his six-figure salary despite being off-air for eight months.

He is expected to be named the broadcaster’s highest paid newsreader when its annual report is published in July.

Edwards got £439,000 last year — over £100,000 more than colleagues Clive Myrie and Reeta Chakrabarti.

An insider said: “It’s terrible for licence fee payers if Huw is earning so much but not working.”

They also suggested that an internal probe into Edwards is unlikely to conclude soon.

The BBC’s apology to the youngster’s family earlier this year came nine months after their original complaint.

Their mum said: “If the BBC had handled the complaint properly, we would have not had to go through this hell.”

The BBC today refused to comment on “internal process”.
