BRITS seem to have gone off the idea of holidaying in the USA since Donald Trump moved into the White House, new figures revealed today.

Searches for holidays to the States have dropped by more than a third since The Donald was inaugurated as President last Friday.

Flight searches from the UK to the US dropped 39 per cent after the ceremony last week, compared to searches during the rest of the month.

The news comes just days after the Prime Minister Theresa May visited Trump at the White House.

The following day alone - Trump's first as President - interest in flights decreased by 24 per cent.

Travel search engine KAYAK.co.uk analysed its data to reveal the pattern was replicated across the rest of Europe.

Overall European demand fell on average by 37 per cent on January 20 when Trump became President, compared to the rest of January.

The US is one of the most-searched for destinations among British holidaymakers but it isn't the first time the 70-year-old businessman has had an impact on demands for flights.

When the results of the elections were announced in November 2016, global demand for flights to the US fell by 30 per cent.

In contrast, in 2012 searches for flights from the UK to the USA increased by 7 per cent following the announcement Barack Obama, 55, had retained his presidency for a second term.

Suzanne Perry, travel expert at KAYAK, said: "We love analysing our data here at KAYAK to see if it indicates wider travel trends.

"That certainly seems to be the case here. Demand for flights dipped drastically on the day of Trump's inauguration and the day after.

"When you consider that 1.5 billion searches are conducted on KAYAK websites every year, it is clear the impact the election and the inauguration of the new president are having on the USA's popularity as a holiday destination."
