THERESA May made her first appearance on a landmark visit to the US as she attended America's national war cemetery.

But she might be advised to pack some tissues for her meeting with Donald Trump later - after being snapped with a runny nose.

The Prime Minister brushed off a heavy cold to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Arlington, Washington DC.

Dressed in a black overcoat, Mrs May placed a wreath of red roses at the site surrounded by American troops holding British and US flags.

Her first engagement comes just hours before she arrives at the White House for a historic first meeting with President Trump.

Mrs May will be the first world leader to meet Trump since his inauguration last Friday.

She was last night given a standing ovation by Republican congress members as she said the US and UK will "lead the world" together.

Mrs May told GOP heavyweights: "It is in our interests – those of Britain and America together – to stand strong together to defend our values.

"This cannot mean a return to the failed policies of the past.

"The days of Britain and America intervening in sovereign countries in an attempt to remake the world in our own image are over."

She earlier received an unexpected snub when White House chiefs misspelled her name as Teresa in official pre-visit briefings.

And journalists well-versed in techno group The Prodigy's back catalogue were quick to pick up that Teresa May is a well-known porn actress who starred in the seminal band's controversial video Smack My Bitch Up.

The documents read: “In the afternoon, the president will partake in a bilateral meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister, Teresa May."

It continued: "The president participates in a working luncheon with Teresa May, Prime Minister of United Kingdom."

The filthy faux pas will likely come as a surprise to vicar’s daughter May ahead of her crunch chat with new White House don Trump this afternoon.

The error was repeated in a later guidance note from the Office of the Vice President before finally being corrected.
