Who is Tulip Siddiq?

Tulip Siddiq, 36, was born in London but from the age of five spent her child in a mix of Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Singapore and Spain.

She moved to North London aged 15 and gained four A-levels at The Royal School in Hampstead before completing an undergraduate degree in English Literature at University College London.

Tulip later completed a master's degree in Politics, Policy and Government.

Her father Shafiq Siddiq was an academic and university economics professor before a stroke left him disabled.

Her mother Sheikh Rehana had gained political asylum in the UK as a teenager.

Tulip Siddiq's maternal grandfather is Sheikh Mujibur Rahman - the founding father and Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, has been Bangladesh's PM since 2009. Siddiq has come under fire for her perceived failure to confront her aunt over alleged human rights abuses in Bangladesh.

When questioned on whether she would also help British-trained lawyer Ahmad bin Quasem, she told a Channel 4 News reporter: "You'd better be very careful."

She then turned to a pregnant producer and said: "Hope you have a great birth, because child labour is hard. See you."

Ms Siddiq led the campaign to free British citizen Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe from an Iranian jail but was criticised over her perceived hypocrisy.

When did Tulip Siddiq become an MP?

Siddiq joined the Labour party aged 16.

She later backed Ed Miliband's campaign to be leader and worked as a special adviser to Tessa Jowell - the former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

Siddiq also campaigned for Barack Obama to win the US election in 2008.

In May 2015 Siddiq became the MP for Hampstead and Kilburn with 23,977 votes in the General Election.

In June of the same year she was appointed vice-chairwoman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group against Antisemitism.

During the same month Siddiq was one of 36 MPs to select Jeremy Corbyn as a candidate in the Labour leadership election.

She personally supported Andy Burnham.

In October 2016 she was appointed as Shadow Minister for Early Years - a role that looks at policies to support and benefit young children and their parents.

When did she have her baby?

Tulip gave birth to her first son after delaying his arrival by two days to vote against Theresa May's proposals for leaving the European Union.

Raphael Mujib St John Percy was born by caesarean section at the Royal Free Hospital in north London on January 17, weighing 6lb 7oz.

His first middle name is in honour of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Siddiq's maternal grandfather and the first president of Bangladesh.

Siddiq and her husband, Chris Percy, said: "We are extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses, midwives and staff at the Royal Free for looking after our son so well."

The couple also have a daughter, Azalea, who is nearly three.

How will she vote on Theresa May's deal?

At nine months pregnant, Siddiq announced she would be delaying her Cesarean section to have her say in the 'meaningful vote' on January 15, 2019.

She had been advised by doctors to have the operation days before that but pushed back the procedure by two days so she could vote.

Siddiq plans to go through the lobby in a wheelchair to vote against May's agreement with Europe.

Ms Siddiq, who is vehemently opposed to the deal, said: "If my son enters the world even one day later than the doctors advised, but it's a world with a better chance of a strong relationship between Britain and Europe, then that's worth fighting for."

She said she did not trust the "pairing" system where an MP on either side of an issue agree to not vote, so cancelling each other out.

The staunch Remainer is campaigning for a second referendum.

She also delayed her Cesarean section for the following day in order to vote against Theresa May in the Prime Minister's vote of no confidence.

When did Siddiq quit the Labour front bench?

Siddiq resigned from the Labour frontbench in January 2017 in protest at Corybn's announcement of a three-line whip for Labour MPs to vote in favour of Article 50 - the clause triggered Brexit.

Siddiq wrote a letter to Corbyn and said that voting to leave the EU would be a betrayal of her constituents who voted overwhelming to remain in the European Union.
