Probe underway to establish how the substance got into the school on the first day back after the Christmas break

Police also confirmed a 32-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of drug offences and is on police bail pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said all four children involved were pupils at the school but refused to reveal their ages or sexes.

He said: "The children believed the substance was sweets, but it has now been established it was cocaine.

"While it was not believed any of the children ingested the powder, they were taken to hospital to be checked over.

"They were assessed to be in good health and were discharged."

South Western Ambulance treated the children before taking them to Poole General Hospital.

An investigation is underway to establish how the substance got into the school on the first day of the school term after the Christmas break.

Head teacher, Dawn Wilks, said: "We can confirm that a child at Broadstone Middle School in Poole was found in possession of what was believed to be a drug.

"The children believed the substance to be sweets.

"The police were immediately called and four children taken to hospital to be checked over.

"They were not found to have any health issues and were discharged on the same day.

"We would like to reassure parents that this incident was dealt with swiftly and in line with our policies.

"Police enquires are ongoing regarding this incident and as such we are unable to comment further at this time."

Last year a Sun Online investigation revealed traces of cocaine were found in the baby-changing and breastfeeding areas of Peppa Pig World theme park.

Traces of the Class A drug were also discovered on toilet seats at the family attraction based on the well known TV character which attracts one million visitors a year.

Also students from a private school allegedly purchased cocaine during a school trip to Tenerife earlier this year.

Reports claim that one sixth form student from Truro School, Cornwall, had to be rushed to hospital during the binge.

Fuming teachers from the £25,000-a-year school demanded the pupil was flown home from the geology trip as a result after claims 12 pupils left their hotel.
