Donald Trump goes ahead with two oil pipelines despite pleas from activists and celebrities
DONALD Trump ignored pleas from activists and celebrity campaigners by advancing construction on two oil pipelines.
The US President yesterday signed executive orders to restart work on the Keystone XL and Dakota Access projects.
The Native American Standing Rock Sioux tribe and its supporters — including Leonardo DiCaprio — say the Dakota scheme under Lake Oahe will threaten their drinking water.
Barack Obama halted the Keystone pipe from Canada to Nebraska in 2015 amid fears it would undercut efforts to clinch a global climate change deal.
But Mr Trump restarted work on the condition that materials used are made in America.

He also again claimed yesterday he would have won the popular vote in the US election “if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally”, without offering any evidence for the widely debunked claim.
Meanwhile, Mr Obama and wife Michelle have flown out to Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the Caribbean.
